General Electric (GE) has partnered with SP Group, Singapore-based energy utility major, to develop industrial IOT (internet of things) capabilities and intelligent applications to enhance power network in the city-state. It has also partnered SPRING Singapore and Platform E to tap the opportunities of the city-state’s entrepreneurial and SME ecosystem.
The digital applications will see GE build up digital industrial capabilities in Singapore and the region.
GE will also open an Asia Digital Operations Center (A-DOC) in Singapore to support GE’s global IT services and operations.
Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), said: “GE’s investment to establish A-DOC in Singapore is testament to our strong digital capabilities and IT infrastructure. The partnerships with SPRING, Platform E and SP Group will help the tech community in Singapore address the growing opportunities in the industrial IOT space within Asia.”
A-DOC is the first Asian location that supports GE’s IT services and operations globally. It will initially house around 60 employees, including network and security operations engineers, enterprise applications engineers, reliability engineers and technical product managers.
“The Industrial Internet represents a multi-billion-dollar opportunity for the industry. We look forward to working with our partners in Singapore to build a digital ecosystem and support entrepreneurship in the country,” said Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE.
Engineering and digital experts from GE and SP will create tools that leverage data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable better asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime in network operations.
The collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Management’s (SIM) entrepreneurship centre, Platform E, will also enable the creation of a co-working space to incubate Industrial Internet startups locally and in the region.
These partnerships with SPRING Singapore and Platform E will see GE provide startups and small businesses access to the Predix platform to co-develop business solutions and applications, as well as leverage scaling and funding opportunities from both parties.
